Fruit

Sucking the seed of a mango I learned to kiss
Tasting the sweet water in melons I learned to tap into the flavor of life,
succulent nectar dripping from each experience

I taste…

not caught up in his superficial
not caught up in his sex
not caught up in domination
or imposing
we are inside of each other

he is,
allowing the energy of me to permeate
as he penetrates me with words and truth

I concentrate on his vernacular and
the way he moves,
his harmonious high steps

Heaven

He balances me with oneness
telling stories of how he became
He is as grateful as I

He says,
“Be with me. Come close, stay close.”

There is nothing between us
that we cannot speak

He,
I breathe

“You have given me something
that I have wanted forever,” he says,

“even before I reincarnated”

We are attracting the things we need to ascend

I have felt peace,
and now I know of it

going, moving forward, and backwards,
and sideways

I will find a way to see you…

always.
In each life.

EveryONE beneath the Sun must find a Way… the last hour of Winter welcomes the First Day of Spring, 6:45 our Time

Close
your
eyes
Don’t be afraid
in the shadows of darkness
the night balances out the day
equal
as the vernal equinox finds its way
6, 4, 5
post meridian, it’s time

find me
all that you thought mattered
wasn’t filling
i am your fullness
i am your Spring
the mistress of mystery
goddess ciphering
rotating, evolving, blossoming,
untouched by your inability to feel
the real, I am the way,

come lift me
let go of the dead weight

my womb is thirsty
the life inside of me has yet to be born
put your hands into my loop

and bring forth eternal life

close
your
eyes.

i am waiting
allowing the medicinal metaphors of history
the prophetic memories of the seasons past
redirect my high

i am turnt
i am in another di e
mension, i fly
through the evening sky

Into the Blue

you haven’t felt it yet,
but i have,
let me tell you about the reasons, last
night i was fucking the light
it keeps me grounded
i am
rooted in the things you told me to pay attention to

you are in my dreams
cycling through my thunderous extremes
i receive
messages from gods

i process the important data
hieroglyphs painted on my walls

my soul left my body
i am traveling
my unconscious mind
con  trives

the TRUTH,
the story of my genes
my ancestors, the creators of liberty
want me to be free
to say words like:

you are the day, and I am the night
put your fingers in my sands and
draw two parallel lines to measure us
tomorrow,
wake up

life is experimental, but he plays chess
the living doesn’t start until you say yes,
to greatness,
let go of an empty search
you should ask the god in you for me
or should you let life just be?
don’t live in misery,
when you could have my mysteries

ok, so it’s like this
i want you
in the Spring
do you want me?

it took me forever to be right on time

peace and blessings manifest with every lesson learned,

Style Ideas for Queens – Transitioning from 80 Degree to 60 Degree Weather

Image

It is September 11 in Cleveland, Ohio. That means it could snow any minute! Joking, but it was one of those days that reminded us that Autumn is a few weeks away. Yesterday, the weather was in the 80s. Last night there was a very soothing storm, and when we woke up, it was 63 degrees! It is cool… cool as in cold! I wasn’t quite ready to give up my sandals, so I wore some today. However, that may not be the case tomorrow! I am thinking, boots or sneakers for sure.

The sandals are one of my favorite pairs by Lucky Brand. They were about $25 at TJMaxx.

With style, you must possess the knowledge, right? Reading anything lately? I had a dream last night about my future, and when I woke up, I asked for a sign. A sign that I was doing the right thing in life. That detaching from people who hurt me was the thing to do. Then today, a friend of mine called and suggested that I read this book, so I rushed to the library and got it. It is just what I needed. It is an amazing story. I can’t put it down. I introduce to you:  Wounded in the House of a Friend by Sonia Sanchez…

wounded

It starts like this…

the unspoken word is born, i see it in our eyes dancing.

She hadn’t found anything. i had been careful. No lipstick, No matches from a well-known bar. No letters. Cards. Confessing an undying love. Nothing tangible for her to hold onto. But i knew she knew. It had been on her face, in her eyes for the last nine days. It was the way she looked at me sideways from across the restaurant table as she picked at her brown rice sushi. It was the way she paused in profile while inspecting my wolfdreams. It was the way her mouth took a detour from talk. And then as we exited the restaurant she said it casually: i know there is another woman. You must tell me about her when we get home.

Yeah. There was another woman. In fact there were three women. In Florida, California, and North Carolina. Places to replace her cool detachment of these last years. No sex for months. Always tired or sick or off to some conference designed to save the world from racism or extinction. If i had jerked off one more time in bed while lying next to her it woulda dropped off. Still i wondered how she knew.

… I love Sonia Sanchez’s writing and I am glad that I got to see her in November of last year. She was cool as can be. She had style, she had grace. I made eye contact with her, and she smiled at me. Just for a moment. I spoke to her. She spoke to me. I walked away.

P.S. One more thing, a song for you…

This my baby. I want to be great as you. Analog girl in a digital world.

Meditating in the Music – Falling in Love with SZA

Image

Music is so much a part of my life.  The messages resonate deep in my soul… and when I am searching, it helps.  So, a few weeks ago, I was introduced to SZA. Then I got to see her perform and she blew my mind!  She told me to: “go to church if you scared…”

and I said…

I KNOW IT HURTS

EVOLVING

I KNOW IT HURTS_SEPT 2014 2

My playlist consists of 2 songs today.

1. Every word in this song instigates something inside of me. I can feel it, twisting and turning in my gut.

2. This right here, you gotta get ready for it! … SZA is so live!

This is SZA. She is so beautiful, inside and out.

Have you ever felt like you were in a noisy place, yet somehow your mind maintained it’s silence? SILENCE IN A NOISY PLACE? Thank you for your time. god’s bless me. Peace.

BEAUTIFULLY POETIC  –  THE FLOACIST

The amazing voice of NATALIE STEWART

The Floacist- I really follow Natalie because she is on of the most successful female performing poets I know of. Her lyrics mean a lot and I really appreciate her level of consciousness. She always looks so comfortable no matter what look she takes on. You can tell moeny doesn't drive her- the art does. Peace to this QUEEN.

BEAUTIFULLY POETIC  –  L. HILL

Yesterday and Today

Lauryn Hill broke records with her lyrics that no female rapper has yet to come close to. I don't mean, grammy's and such- I mean she had the power to get into your heart because she was so REAL.

POETIC FACES IN APRIL. The misunderstood Lauryn will forever move me. The MisEducation was awesome! Every word and every song. I have yet to hear an album like this. I even loved loved loved her MTV Unplugged. She was so beautiful and humble. We remember you Queen!

BEAUTIFULLY POETIC  –  GOAPELE

Goapele's music continues to be wonderful. I even enjoyed her last album which she added a bit of a "neo-pop" twist to a few of the songs. She is powerfully POETIC.

I use NATIONAL POETRY MONTH to teach people about poets and writers who have influenced and ARE changing culture. I practice different forms of poetry and study vocabulary words and expressions that will help me in storytelling. I find things that are “poetic” in nature and I try to help young people understand what it means 2BaPoEt. I define poetic as having the power to be persuasive, and get people to support your messages.

These are the FACES of the wonderful women who have influenced me artistically.

It is National Poetry Month and as a verbal artist, I love it!

WOMEN’S STORIES- The ART of STORYTELLING

Image

1
Storytelling is a creative art form that dates back to the beginning of time. It has been one of the most effective methods in communicating and in sharing history. It allows us to break down and let it all out! I personally love to share my stories with people as part of my cycle of growth. I have loved and been loved; I have hurt and been hurt- telling these stories are liberating!

No one can tell you how to tell your story. You have to decide on the best way to share your life. Some people will like what you do, and many won’t, but if you keep a clean heart, the world will return the positive energy to you.

I most often choose to tell my stories using poetry. I look like this when I do (lol). Queen1

Queen2Queen3

Queen4Queen5
I find it refreshing and it gives me a crazy boost that flows through my entire body! It’s hard to explain. My style is at best rhythmic, but the cadence changes just as the temperature of my stories change. My pulse goes up and down and through the roof! Even when I’m calm, I’m excited inside. I tell women’s stories because I AM WOMAN. Some of these stories are bright and cheerful, and some are deep and dark, but in the end everything is good.

In storytelling, I have learned that denial is not an option. The truth sets me free. My perspective is what’s most important in my art of storytelling. I mesh together what I have learned with what’s happening now. The past, the future, and the most important- THE PRESENT! I am here RIGHT NOW! Not tomorrow or yesterday- now!

In my continued celebration of women I would like to share with you a small gift that a very special person gave to me … Nikki Giovani’s book “My House.” Published in 1972.
NG

The guy that gave me this book is someone that I talk to in passing, but he’s almost a stranger. Somehow he understood that I adored poetry and he decided to give me this book as a gift for Women’s History Month. Much love to him for thinking of me. What is so special about this gift is that pages 25 and 26 are missing! The poem that is supposed to be on these pages is called Just A New York Poem. This is weird for me because New York has been on my mind for weeks now. He gives me this book with the poem ripped out! Interesting. I feel like I needed that poem to be in the book, but it is not. Well, the rest of the book is great. Check it out if you can.

I like Nikki’s poems. I met Nikki Giovanni during my undergraduate studies at Fisk University. She once attended Fisk and she was a visiting professor for some time. I really dig her evolution as a woman. Her stories travel deep into the soul and resonate. She tells the truth. I appreciate Nikki Giovanni and all the women who boldly tell stories of hurt and triumph without placing blame or pointing fingers. Peace to all Queens who have stopped hiding. Peace to you.
